Four reasons why diets don't work
Updated: May 27
You’ve probably tried losing weight before. (Most people have!)
You may even have been successful.
But, if you are like most people, you probably regained it all. Plus a bit more.
Which is demoralising after all that effort. In this blog I look at four reasons why diets don’t work.
1. We see diets as a temporary ‘fix’
We tend to follow a diet until we have got the results we want. Or had enough! Then go back to our old way of eating; a way of eating that caused us to gain weight in the first place.
2. They have a one-size-fits all approach
A one-size-fits-all approach doesn’t consider you as a unique individual with your personal dietary preferences and requirements. When you follow a diet you may feel deprived and be eating in a way that you don’t really enjoy. You may want the weight loss, but how do you feel about going on a diet?
3. Diets don’t address the imbalances in your body that trigger cravings, overeating and weight gain
Biochemical imbalances can trigger cravings, overeating and belly fat. They give your body the message to eat more, to grab something sweet, to store more fat. Unless you change these underlying imbalances, you are always going to be fighting against your body in your quest to lose weight.
(And remember, you are unique. Even though you and your friend may both have cravings or belly fat, they may be triggered by different imbalances).
4. Diets set up a win-lose situation
It’s hard to get out of the win-lose mindset when we diet. How many times have you ‘blown’ your diet and ended up overeating the very foods you were trying to avoid. Often we have an all or nothing mentality when it comes to dieting. If we don’t do it ‘perfectly’, then we’ve failed. This is really counterproductive for sustainable weight loss.
My mission is to help you find a sustainable way of eating that works for you; that you enjoy. That targets the root causes of your cravings, overeating and weight gain. That makes eating healthily easy. So you always look and feel your best and never diet again.
